What’s Involved in Lip Enhancement?

Lip enhancement, also known as lip augmentation is used to volumise and contours the lips, creating symmetry and balance to the overall face. Lip augmentation can also soften fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, which occur as a result facial volume loss and ageing. Dermal fillers are used to either plump up the lip, or reverse the signs of an ageing lip creating a more youthful natural appearance. At Kaya Cosmedica, we offer a full spectrum of injectable fillers to create an individualized result, depending on your preference. Using her artistic eye and years of experience, Dr Parvin Khinda can help you determine which lip enhancement options best suit your desired look and overall facial structure. Why consider lip enhancement?

Lip dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which bind water to hydrate, volumise, and create structure to to the lip and surrounding areas. Lip fillers can be used to create a fuller pout, by increasing the volume of the lips, or to rejuvenate the ageing lip creating a more youthful appearance. To create a fuller pout, lip filler is placed not only in the redness of the lip, but in the border of the lip to create a lifting/eversion of the upper lip. It is also important to create symmetry and a well proportioned lip suited to the overall individual face structure. The earliest signs of ageing include loss of volume in the lip, and the development of lines around the mouth, creating a loss of definition over time. An example is the border of the lip, called the white roll, which loses its definition, causing lipstick bleeding onto your skin. This is best filled with dermal fillers to redefine the border of the lip. Lines around the lip also occur with a loss of collagen and sun damage, and these can be softened with the use of lip dermal fillers. In summary lip dermal fillers can be used to:
  • Increase lip fullness
  • Define the lip border
  • Evert the lip
  • Create a better proportioned lip
  • Improve hydration
  • Soften fine lines around the mouth
  • Create a cupids bow
  • Lift up drooping mouth corners

What can I expect from the procedure?

Initially, a consultation is required to discuss what outcomes are desired for lip enhancement, and to assess your lip and facial structure. The procedure involves mostly using a ultra fine cannula (a blunt ended small tube) as opposed to a needle to inject the filler into specific areas of the lip. The use of a cannula minimises the risk of bruising and swelling, and distributes the filler in a more uniform and smoother fashion, avoiding lumps. The entire procedure takes approximately 30 minutes, and there are immediate results. For pain relief there is an additional option of local anaesthetic nerve block similar to that used by dentists.

What is involved with recovery?

There is mild and temporary swelling of the lips for up to 3-5 days after the procedure. At Kaya Cosmedica, we recommended a complimentary post treatment review appointment at 2-3 weeks to provide any final touch ups if required.
